Dear customers, families and friends,
As you may know, the Therapeutic Goods Administration’s (TGA) has approved the use of the COVID-19 vaccine in Australia and now, preparation is under way to administer the vaccine to all Australians.
Phase 1A of the COVID vaccine rollout (the first group to receive the vaccine) is for high-risk groups, which includes disability customers and disability support staff. This is great news for Cara, as it means Supported Independent Living (SIL) customers and Cara support staff will be among the first Australians to receive the vaccine.
The vaccine has been developed to be safe and as effective as possible in protecting Australians against COVID-19. All vaccines are thoroughly tested for safety before they are approved for use in Australia. This includes careful analysis of clinical trial data, ingredients, chemistry, manufacturing and other factors.
As more information comes to light, we will keep you updated and develop an FAQ document regarding the vaccine rollout. To assist with this process, please email any questions you may have to prteam@cara.org.au so that we can include these in the document. Please note that you will not receive a response to this email, however it is likely your question will be answered in the next vaccination update we provide.
Whether or not you receive the vaccine in phase 1A, it’s still important to maintain COVID-safe practices including physical distancing, hand hygiene and staying home if you’re unwell. If you develop any symptoms (fever or chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell) you should get tested for COVID-19 and stay isolated at home until you receive a negative result.
