In 2025, Cara celebrated 30 years as an independent organisation and more than 75 years of supporting South Australians with disability. The milestone provided an opportunity to reflect on the people, partnerships and shared vision that have shaped the organisation’s journey from its earliest beginnings to the present day.

What began as a grassroots movement led by passionate families and advocates grew into a trusted provider of disability services supporting thousands of people across metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia. Throughout decades of social change, sector reform and evolving approaches to disability support, Cara remained committed to helping people with disability live meaningful lives within their communities.

The celebration honoured the generations of clients, families, staff, volunteers, board members, supporters and community partners who helped shape Cara’s story. Their dedication, advocacy and belief in greater opportunity created lasting change, not only for the organisation, but for countless people with disability and their families across South Australia.

More than a celebration of the past, the anniversary was also a celebration of possibility. It recognised how far the organisation had come while looking ahead to the future, continuing a legacy built on inclusion, independence, connection and the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to live a life filled with joy, purpose and belonging.
