The introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) marked one of the most significant reforms in Australia’s disability sector. Designed to give people with disability greater choice, control and flexibility over the supports they receive, the NDIS transformed the way services were funded, delivered and experienced. For many individuals and families, it created new opportunities to make decisions about their own lives, pursue personal goals and choose providers that best met their needs.
As the sector evolved, Cara embraced this new environment while remaining true to its longstanding commitment to people with disability and their families. The organisation adapted its services, systems and approaches to ensure individuals could make the most of the opportunities created by the NDIS. Throughout this period of significant change, Cara remained focused on delivering high-quality, person-centred supports that reflected each person’s unique goals, strengths and aspirations.
In the years that followed, Cara continued to grow and innovate, expanding services across metropolitan Adelaide and regional South Australia. New programs, partnerships and community connections helped broaden the opportunities available to people with disability, while the organisation’s expertise in supporting people with severe, multiple and complex disabilities continued to be recognised across the sector.
Today, Cara remains committed to helping people with disability build independence, strengthen connections, achieve their goals and live life on their terms. While the disability landscape continues to evolve, the organisation’s purpose remains unchanged: creating opportunities for people to experience a life filled with joy, purpose and belonging.
