Cara’s Board of Directors elected Nick Smith as President of the Board at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Monday evening. Fellow Board Director Lucy Davies was elected Vice-President, a position formerly held by Nick.
Serving as a Board Director since 2015, Nick has extensive commercial and risk management expertise developed in senior management roles across the private and public sectors, predominantly in the energy and construction materials markets.
As the Executive Director, Growth and Low Carbon, for the South Australian Department for Energy and Mining, Nick brings highly-respected business intellect to Cara.
“I’m honoured to be taking on the role as President of the Board at Cara,” Nick said.
“It truly is a values-driven organisation that puts customers first. I’m delighted to be able to continue my contribution to Cara – an organisation with such a rich history and an excellent reputation in the disability space.”
Nick also holds the position of Vice President of the International Association for Hydrogen Safety (HySafe).
With a Master of Business Administration, he is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Energy.
Vice-President Lucy’s background extends across law, government, management consulting and brand strategy.
She is skilled in policy development, government processes, strategy, business development and marketing, with strong negotiation and analytical prowess.
Holding a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of International Studies from the University of Adelaide, Lucy’s strong sense of social justice and community make her a perfect inclusion to the Cara Board, which she joined in 2018.
New President, Nick was preceded by Phil Dorman, who spent 13 years on the Board, including four as President. Phil, a now-retired lawyer, contributed greatly to Cara over his time.
“Phil has played an integral role in building Cara to where it is today and we are incredibly grateful for his service and wish him all the very best,” Cara Chief Executive, Liz Cohen said.
“We welcome Nick and Lucy into their new roles and looking forward to seeing them further influence our organisation into the future.”
Additional positions appointed at the AGM were Matthew Nicholls as Chair of Finance and Audit and Pamela Lee as Chair of Governance and Risk.
